Lebanon takes interest in Abkhazia and South Ossetia2008-11-11 12:17
"The question of their recognition will be solved at a high state level. But we are going to form contacts with South Ossetia and Abkhazia now and in a short time we'll send a delegation of our businessmen there", - the leader of Lebanon's parliamentary majority Saad Hariri stated.
"We have personal knowledge in what situation South Ossetia was". - Saad Hariri emphasized. - As Lebanon is a small state that is under the threat too. On one side we have Israel that attacked us more than once. On the other side there is Syria that threatens Lebanon from time to time".
He noted that Russia was one of the states that try to avoid military conflicts and advocate principles of amicable settlement of the problems. In South Ossetia Russia was forced to take certain measures in order to protect its citizens and the peaceful populace.
The leader of parliamentary majority of the cedar country arrived in Moscow on November 7, to be the guest of Vladimir Putin.
"Lebanon had a difficult time once, - Hariri narrated. - However due to the efforts of our Russian friends we managed to overcome these difficulties. Nevertheless the situation in the Middle East leaves much to be desired. In every possible way we are interested that Russia as a great country could play a significant part in calming down and normalization of the situation. As far as Russian assistance to Lebanon is concerned we greatly rely on your help in restoration of sovereignty over Shebaa farms".
In reply Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow was ready to render economic and political assistance to Lebanon in normalization of the situation in the country and promised to apply best efforts for this.
Lebanon needs not only a few square kilometers of Shebaa farms that were occupied by Israel as early as in 1967. In 2006 Beirut was again disappointed in peacemaking strains of the world community. Unexpectedly Israel invaded South Lebanon. The attempts of the West to compromise the action did not stop another war - it was the fifth war for sixty years of the "settlement". While Israeli jets were dropping bombs the USA and Europe displayed complete peacemaking impotence. In Lebanon - yet again. In 1982 American peacemakers turned up there. They had a plan to bring the civil war in the country to a stop. But a year and a half later the Americans withdrew letting the war continue for another six years.
