Lobbied flights2010-05-14 17:46
The third series of flights between Moscow and Tbilisi has been scheduled for the end of May and June. A relevant request has been made by the Georgian Airways Air Company and the Russian MFA has announced its approval of the practice. Air carriers ask not to confuse the issue of transport connection with politics. However, it is publicly known that the changes came only when part of the opposition led by former Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli started lobbying Georgia's interests in Russia.
The request made by Georgian Airways has been received by Ministry of Transport in Russia. The answer is going to be given within one or two days.
The Georgians ask to permit 12 direct charter flights from Tbilisi to Moscow and back in the period from May 24 to July 1, 2010, which is the time of summer exams and the beginning of summer holidays.
"We have sent a request and are awaiting an approval. We believe the answer will be positive", - Head of Public Affairs Department of Georgian Airways Nino Giorgobiani stated on the air of Kavkasia TV Company. According to her, the air company is ready to perform the flights "should the governments take a political decision".
Their request will obviously be satisfied, so long as Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov had expressed his total approval of the matter before the request was made.
"We do not see any essential obstacles for opening regular flight connection", - the minister answered in written form to the senators in the context of the "government hour" at the State Duma. According to him, Moscow "invariably satisfies the requests made by the Georgian companies concerning the performance of humanitarian charter flights during the holidays". Besides, Russia is trying to do everything possible "to solve the practical and humanitarian issues that our citizens are so worried about".
At the same time, Lavrov expressed assuredness that sooner or later the power in Georgian will be taken up by some adequate responsible politicians that will want to live in peace with their close neighbors, and that will be the time of the full-scale restoration of the Russian-Georgian relationship.
The current anti-Russian policy does not reveal the expectations of most Georgians and is used to consolidate the power inside the country, Lavrov added.
