Burdzhanadze: “Gori was bombed by us”2010-05-20 10:12
Oppositionist Nino Burdzhanadze became the focus of the press because of her unambiguous statement: there is an impression that Gori was bombed by us in August 2008. The delegates of the ruling party confirm sarcastically: for Vladimir Putin's interlocutor, "us" means the Russians.
From her tour to Russia, Nino Burdzhanadze brought some new facts disclosing the country's government. However, the journalists shot such unpleasant questions at her at the airport that she decided not to reveal all her trump cards.
The press showed special interest to her recent statement made to newspaper Kviris Palitra: "When I recollect the war days I am apt to think that the center of Gori was bombed by us".
However, the politician refused to discuss the matter casually: "I do not think that I should give any comments on the matter right now. We may discuss this point some other time if you wish to", - leader of the oppositional Democratic Movement - United Georgia party stated. According to her, the statement concerning the bombing of Gori had "a bit different meaning".
Burdzhanadze tried to switch the conversation to another point that was more important for her: why was her luggage searched for an hour and a half in the airport of Tbilisi? "I wonder why our authorities expect me to bring suitcases of cash. Then they will disseminate this information on TV with Vano Merabishvili's help. Do I make an impression of a shallow person? And our government does, by the way", - the politician mentioned sarcastically.
According to customs officers, all the passengers of the flight from Kiev had to undergo customs examination. Constitutional Safety Department had to do it allegedly after the warning made by their colleagues from Munich. Burdzhanadze herself is going to hold a kind of investigation in connection with these explanations, as her party colleagues confirmed. She is preparing an official appeal to the federal police of Germany, security service of the airport in Munich and the German Embassy in Georgia; the appeal will be delivered today. The former Speaker of Parliament demands that these administrations should specify and explain the information provided by CSD.
At the airport, Burdzhanadze made a hint to the journalists that she is ready to tell a lot of interesting things about her trip and will surely do that as soon as the TV channels are "kind enough to give her the air".
