Gamarjoba, comrades guerillas?2010-07-27 18:23
Sometimes there is a great desire to believe president Mikheil Saakashvili saying that the Georgian government will not use force against Abkhazia and South Ossetia and is ready to wait for "amicable" reunion. Still, the facts are distressing: hardly had Georgia rewritten its law on reserve duty that calls even women to arms, when there appeared rumors on guerilla war as a way to return the breakaway territories.
The Georgian law on reserve duty was amended less than a month ago. From now on women and male reservists up to 65 years old can be drafted into the army.
Why should the number of battle-worthy citizens be increased if the government does not plan any wars? There is Involvement through Partnership strategy to seduce Abkhazians and Ossetians. There are promises that Tbilisi will seek Sukhum's and Tskhinval's favor only with peaceful methods.
Georgian experts explain that the reserve is needed for orderliness only. Russian experts, on the contrary, think that in the face of such a threat as "the northern empire" the government of the Caucasian republic is preparing its people for a new war: not an open one that the country will not handle without the help of allies but an underground war - a guerilla war.
Recalling Mikheil Saakashvili's speeches in December he spoke about every street and every home that should be ready for defense. Even women and children must be able to carry a gun.
In follow-up to these speeches Georgia's educational institutions revived military and patriotic classes. From school age Georgians are taught martial art. Excursions to military bases are made for boys and girls in patriarchal Georgia where a woman is first of all a homemaker.
The president asserts that he needs a battle-worthy army exclusively for defense adding that this is why Georgian soldiers are acquiring experience in Afghanistan. The initiator of the 2008 South Ossetian war asks to resume supplies of exclusively defensive arms...
While these things are pronounced from the tribune part of the Georgian society inspired by the idea of universal call to arms comes up with more aggressive intentions.
Colonel Giorgi Nebieridze, representative of Iberia resistance movement, suggests a guerilla war in Abkhazia and South Ossetia saying that the Georgian people have the full right to take all kinds of measures to bring the Abkhaz and South Ossetian lands back to Georgia's fold.
