Abkhazia’s kindness makes Tbilisi sneer2010-08-05 11:18
Sukhum-Moscow relationships make Georgia envy. Russia receives sincere gratitude from Abkhaz citizens for protection of the small republic. Abkhaz leaders offer a free vacation to 1,000 Russian children affected by the fire in Central Russia which makes Tbilisi comment that Abkhazia simply wants to fulfill the vacation season plan. What else can be said, if Georgians won't have such an offer from Sukhum that won't accept any help from Tbilisi either.
Malevolence of Georgian propagandists toward Abkhazia and South Ossetia only shows their genuine attitude to Abkhaz and Ossetian nations. When a problem arises they always repeat: friendship with Russia does you no good, you would be better off with Georgia.
Better or not is no more a question for the breakaway republics. They did not want to share the road with the nationalist pro-Western state that appeared where the GSSR used to be, and so they gradually started to secede from Georgia which, by the way, instead of luring them back and calking them down, launched violent operations to intimidate national minorities and "set constitutional order". It was Russia that protected the two republics from these barbarian actions.
Now Abkhazia lends a helping hand to Russian children from families affected by forest fires, not Georgian refugees. "In the next few days we will be ready to greet and accommodate one thousand children from Russian regions in health resorts of Abkhazia", - PM Sergey Shamba stated during the visit of a Russian guest, Vice PM Igor Shuvalov.
Abkhaz President Sergey Bagapsh confirms: "The children can relax here while their parents will be settling down restoring their homes. This will be our little contribution". "Russia is the only country that lent a helping hand to Abkhazia in a very difficult period of time. Abkhazia's people and leaders highly esteem this help. Now that the citizens of some Russian regions were affected by fires, many families were left homeless, we can't keep out". - Interfax quotes.
Over 2,000 people are left homeless because of the fires in Russia. Forest and turf fires are attacking 14 regions simultaneously, RIA Novosti reports today. The number of victims is more than 30 persons. Heat has turned into a real national disaster, and Abkhazia couldn't be indifferent to the Russian grief.
Still, Georgia is cynical commenting on Shamba's proposal: Abkhaz authorities believe that Russia will pay for children's accommodation thus helping them to improve touristic affairs. It will be remembered that by Tbilisi version this year Abkhazia has a bad season, which Sukhum categorically refutes.
