No disorder in South Ossetia2008-12-04 14:19
The epoch of disclosures and incriminating evidence is coming to South Ossetia as well as in Georgia. This is the leading news in yesterday's mass media of Georgia. No wonder: internal conflicts in the hostile camp are a balm for the souls of Georgia's leaders.
So not only in Tbilisi ambitious officials and politicians cannot share power and influence. On the basis of one concrete fact the press generalizes: meet the conflict between the political elites of Russia and South Ossetia. However Tskhinval was quick to contradict that. And the story is this. It is believed that the August war hero, ex Secretary of Security Council of South Ossetia Anatoly Barankevich has quarreled with Edward Kokoyty, the president of the republic. Their relationships have been damaged completely. It is said that the confrontation reached the point when Barankevich threatens Kokoyty with compromising information. Firstly these are certain documents proving that Kokoyty was hiding during the August events contrary to the official version.
Secondly he misappropriates the funds coming as the Russian financial aid. According to the Georgian mass media Barankevich took such a decision being offended that recently he had not been let in the territory of South Ossetia. The state committee on information and press of South Ossetia placed Barankevich's paraphrased comment on its site: "During the telephone conversation with IA "Res" lieutenant general Anatoly Barankevich reported that he was in Moscow and had made no attempts to enter South Ossetia. Accordingly no one sent him away from Roksky tunnel (a route connecting Russia with the republic - ed.). This disinformation is disseminated by the Georgian mass media.
Certain media are trying to take advantage of the general's complicated relationships with Edward Kokoyty's team. "Though I have made no comment on that" - Barankevich's quotation goes.
Apparently some Russian agencies are in the number of these "certain media". Especially those that made a hint that following the war Kokoyty and Barankevich would not get on well. It is supposed this is the reason why the general did not become a member of South Ossetia's new government. The discord was caused by fast growth of the general's popularity. All those days he was in Tskhinval and personally crashed two Georgian tanks with a grenade launcher. Then the ex head of Security Council was transferred to Moscow against his will by Kokoyty's imperative request.
It looks like the president is jealous that his people are more in favor of the general. As "Kavkazsky uzel" writes immediately after the war at the meeting in Tskhinval Barankevich had a more emotional reception than Kokoyty. The witnesses confirm that too.
