Eiffel Tower’s inclination to Batumi2010-10-22 15:53
Indeed, Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili's love for young girls and tourism works miracles. To protect Veronika Kobalia from constant accusations Sakartvelo leader decided to advertise Georgian holiday resorts himself telling about the miracles the government plans in the capital of Ajaria - Batumi. There will be golden sand beaches, a funicular railway, and even an Eiffel Tower!
In August 2010 Mikheil Saakashvili made an attempt to draw attention of potential tourists to Batumi's uniqueness by ordering to construct a ski resort close to the Black Sea coast. To demonstrate co-existence of cold snow and warm water, the Georgian leader first put on a ski kit accompanied by his Dutch wife and two children and the next day he was cleaving waves with confident crawl strokes.
But the convincing picture "ski-today, flippers - tomorrow" failed since Saakashvili was taken to the beach from the mountainous route in his private helicopter. Georgians mainly unable to afford a PC for one lari a day can only dream about private aircrafts.
Presently, in cooperation with the government of the republic of Ajaria and the tourist industry guru represented by the economy minister Mikheil Saakashvili has reconsidered the scenario of global PR-campaign for turning Georgia into European Singapore and decided to raise general appeal of Batumi in a different, albeit old, way: the head of the state is out there swimming again.
Confident that even his most eccentric acts are broadcast by international TV channels (let's remember the tie story) Mikheil Nikolozovich hoped to attract public attention by inviting tourists to Ajarian beaches.
There was a fly in the ointment for potential competitors. Making use of his iPad Saakashvili informed journalists on climate conditions in various sea resorts. "There is a notion - and many say so - that Batumi has a higher level of humidity that creates discomfort. But look - humidity level in many well-known sea resorts is much higher than we have here", - he summed up clasping the US gadget.
The meteorological reference unexpectedly ended in a political conclusion: as it turns out, Batumi's special climate forces Russia to occupy and own the Georgian land. "Because a holiday season in Georgia lasts for almost six months - from the end of May to November 11", - Mikheil Saakashvili specified omitting Krasnodar Territory sea resorts and now independent Abkhazia for some reason.
