Pug-dog and elephants: how a journalist decided to cause trouble between Churches2011-01-13 19:15
Everyone greets year 2011 while Georgia Online seems to be stuck in mid 1920s. There is an impression that their journalist has just completed an article for "Young Atheist" or "Atheist at the machine-sit" magazine judging by his enthusiasm to present a new material. Who would have thought that the Church in an Orthodox country will receive so many verbal insults and the priests will be called bandits, and the man who wrote all this in a fit of insanity is not fired with a scandal?
The fact that some Georgian mass media are least interested in knowing people's opinion and are concerned over the best way to please the ruling regime is old news. Still, it seems detachment from reality is getting critical. A fortnight ago people of Georgia called Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II "the man of the year" summing up the results of 2010 and confirming their trust and loyalty to the Church.
But what does public opinion mean to Tengiz Ablotia, a journalist from Georgia Online? He does not care about feelings of believers. All is good to bark on Russia. Even if the Church is barked at too. Even if it's Georgian church. It's ok to abjure religion for the sake of politics. Followers of "Atheist at the machine-sit" just can't think of such nonsense.
So his new verbal attack has one goal to make the gap with Russia wider. Still, this time he targeted at what even a most dishonest person wouldn't touch. Hardly there is anyone who would dare insult faith and Church - Georgian and Russian. This must be a person that really has nothing sacred, and his spiritual memory and people's love are nothing more than an empty sound.
Finding fault with protocol details of relationships between two Churches Ablotia depicts a very Leo Taxil picture. He is so full of hatred for anything connected with priesthood that he does not restrain himself even for simple politeness. Ablotia calls Russian priests "bears in priest robes" and "criminals". He calls the Russian Orthodox church "an organized criminal group" without a shade of doubt.
So what's the reason for this choking hatred? To try and blacken Russia in the eyes of a Georgian reader. But indeed: punish your people and others will fear you. Slinging dirt at Russia lit this Ablotia insults the Georgian Orthodox Church too. In his articles priests led by Patriarch Ilia II are presented as naïve simpletons that dance to a sly Russian pipe.
