Lavrov reduces Tbilisi to hysterics2011-04-27 21:31
Russian FM Sergey Lavrov continues his Transcaucasian trip. Recently he visited South Ossetia and Abkhazia is his today's destination. The Russian minister has already stated that the economic interaction between Moscow and Sukhum has serious prospects. By the way, soon nearly 40 agreements in different spheres will be signed. As was expected, Lavrov's voyage has caused a fit of uncontrollable aggression in Tbilisi.
Upon recognition of Abkhazia's independence in 2008 the Russian side has been actively cooperating with the Transcaucasian republic. Despite attempts of Saakashvili regime to convince the west of the "occupation", this cooperation is managed on an egalitarian basis. A number of promising projects have been launched: development of Abkhaz shelf by Rosneft and operation of the Abkhaz railway system by Russian Railway OJSC.
As Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said on his arrival to Abkhazia, the Russian-Abkhaz relations have room to grow. According to him the Russian Federation does not have many other partners with such a well developed system of contracts. "The contract basis between Russia and Abkhazia consists of 58 documents", - Apsnypress news agency quotes. - Nearly 40 new agreements are in development at the moment. Certainly, all this will enrich our cooperation in various fields. One of the crucial agreements on introduction of visa-free regime takes effect today.
Over the period of long-awaited independence Sukhum has acquired business contacts with many countries. Turkish business community shows genuine interest in projects of the Transcaucasian republic. Not long ago opportunities of Abkhazia attracted attention of Israeli investors. However, economic achievements of the "breakaway territories", as the republic is denominated by Georgian authorities, make Sakartvelo really nervous. Moreover, not long ago vice speaker of Georgian parliament Paata Davitaya came up with a statement calling to bring to trial Turkish and Israelite companies wishing to cooperate with Abkhazia. Tbilisi now promises to file a complaint to the International Organization of Civil Aviation in case foreign carriers decide to set up direct air communication with Sukhum.
However, Georgia's discontent is viewed with more calmness in the West. No wonder: well-weighted economic policy pursued by the Abkhaz leaders demonstrates to the international community that the republic is ready for free floating without interference of people like Mikheil Saakashvili.
