Georgian Foreign Ministry accuses Dutch journalist of false information

2009-01-08 11:17

Georgian Foreign Ministry commented on the reportage devoted to August events in Georgia, that went in the air of NOS Journal of NOS TV company (The Netherlands). The Ministry accused the Dutch journalist in false information spread.

According to the Ministry, the program touched upon Nino Matkava, a Georgian woman, who was struggling in South Ossetian front line.

The Ministry felt indignant about the journalist's words. He claimed that Georgian President started the war and regarded it as a game, in which Nino and other women like her were supposedly fall victims.

«The report relied on the emotional impact of Ms. Matkava's experience in the war. However, Ms. Matkava was not serving in the Georgian military at the time of the invasion. In fact, she was nowhere near the front lines and thus was in no position to provide any information on the events surrounding the invasion. Ms. Matkava served as a command unit target operator of Georgian Armed Forces and was dismissed on June 12, 2006 due to the violation of the contract conditions. Furthermore, the Dutch broadcast offered no other credible information to back its assertion», Georgian Foreign Ministry states.
