Shashkin Failed Exams

Shashkin Failed Exams. 18770.jpegSometimes it is fun to observe how the Georgian authorities flog themselves hard relying on public relations in spheres bursting like soap-bubbles. Was it long ago that Mikhail Saakashvili cried that school, teachers and schoolchildren are the main weapon of Georgia? To all appearances the weapon turned out to be nonstandard. Over six thousand schoolchildren failed to pass final examinations this year. Dmitry Shashkin, Sakartvelo's Minister of Education, threatens the administrations of the failed schools with a strict punishment, but what is the

The development of education in Georgia is one of the main fetishes of the current president on a par with "singaporization" and spontaneous movements to the NATO and EU. But to all appearances Mikhail Saakashvili was born either on Monday or under a very unlucky star. All his purposes mockingly vanish into thin air. A real "Mr. Misfortune".

From 23 May till 1 June the examinations for the school-leaving certificate in eight subjects took place in all Georgian schools. They were taken by 48.000 graduates. The President, who was a gold medalist in the past, was certainly excited while waiting for the results. After all, not so long ago Saakashvili driveled not in vain on the fact that the main struggle of the Georgian people is the struggle of ideas, whereas the schools are the real battlefield.

What is to be said? Probably, it will be difficult for Mishiko to admit that the "battlefield" has turned out to be a real Waterloo. Six thousand schoolchildren, i.e. every eighth pupil, failed to pass the exams and didn't get their school leaving certificates and the possibility to enter university this year. It is symbolic in some respect: both the Georgian army and the Georgian school cannot boast professionalism. However, considering teachers' salaries in Sakartvelo provinces which hardly reach a hundred of lari, the results are nothing to be surprised with.

Dmitry Shashkin, Minister of Education, who has long been suspected of real sabotage related to the Georgian schools, immediately found guilty persons. Whoever would have doubt that scoundrels do not have top positions and not in the least look at the minister in the mirror. No, the lower the chimney, the thinner the smoke: the directors of several dozens of delinquent schools are to be liable for the disastrous results of the exams. The school boards should act as judges and Shashkin gave to understand that soft-heartedness is out of place.
