Parliamentary opposition accuses government of violence on refugees
2009-01-13 16:20Parliamentary opposition accused government of violent and barbaric actions on refugees.
Actions of government, which yesterday evicted refugees from the building of the former administration of Krtsanisi district of Tbilisi, can be regarded as violence and barbarity, said Georgiy Akhvlediani, the representative of the Christian Democrats, at today's press conference.
According to Akhvlediani, yesterday late at night policemen turned out by force 30 families of refugees, taking shelter in the building of former administration. Many of them became refugees in early 90s, in the times of war with Abkhazia, but some gained the status of fugitives after the August events.
Christian Democrats are exasperated by the fact that government evicts refugees without providing alternative dwelling for them beforehand.
The refugees attended the press conference and said that they had had no wish to turn to extreme manifestations of protest, but had too many problems the government wasn't eager to solve. The refugees suggested they could turn to international organizations for help.
