Georgia against prolongation of OSCE mission mandate at the price of territorial integrity

2009-01-15 14:57

Tbilisi nourishes practically no hope for prolongation of OSCE mission in its previous format in conflict regions of Georgia. As Temur Iakobashvili, the State Minister of Reintegration of Georgia, shared before the beginning of the meeting of the government, Russia is likely to block the solution of the issue at the meeting of the Permanent Council of OSCE, to be held today in Vienna, again.

At the same tome the State Minister underlined that Georgia doesn't want the solution at any price and will not agree for prolongation of OSCE mission at the cost of territorial integrity.

"If the principle of territorial integrity of Georgia in the definition of OSCE mandate will be violated, we will in no way accept this definition", Iakobashvili stated.

Georgiy Baramidze, the State Minister for European Atlantic Integration Issues, also believes that in Vienna Russia will again block the issue of OSCE mission mandate in its previous format prolongation, but highlights that in this case Georgia will be striving for spreading of the EU mission mandate on the conflict regions.

If Russia can block some decisions as OSCE member, in the EU it has no right to do so, Baramidze stated.

As its is widely known, Russia claims that since South Ossetia has become an independent state, the mandate of OSCE mission in Georgia cannot applied to it. Russian side demands the mandate of OSCE mission to be changed, but Tbilisi is strongly against it.
