Even supporters of the Georgian president refuse to believe in the "spy story". Tbilisi is full of rumors on an unexpected "disease" Vera Kobalia was taken with and the brain concussion Natia Bandeladze, an employee of Saakashvili's press service, strangely had. No doubt these rumors will multiply since only one "spy" - Georgi Adbaladze, who sent addressees in his defense to the president and US ambassador, - is ready to comment on the story.
It's absolute nonsense. There is no other definition of the story of photo journalists accused of espionage in favor of Russia. There is a strong impression that Georgian authorities have become addicted to the need of exposing spies and accuse people at random not knowing whom to nail down.
This time, however, accusations against Zurab Kurtsikidze, Irakli and Natia Gedenidze and Georgi Abdaladze, might be the real thing unlike loud "exposures" of the past. Yet, this is not espionage.
In conditions of information vacuum this case was wrapped in by Mishiko-controlled mass media, people of the country have pronounced their own verdict. Common citizens in Tbilisi are sure: the true reason of persecution against photo correspondents is that "they have made a photo of what should not be shot". The conclusion seems natural: last week Vera Kobalia was taken to one of the private hospitals of the capital of Georgia. She was unexpectedly taken ill simultaneously with the espionage accusations against the photo reporters. It has not been reported yet what disease laid the baker minister low. Now there is another person, Natia Bandeladze from the president's press service, in hospital with brain concussion.
Common Georgians consider it a very strange coincidence. Yet, they can only guess - they will not learn the truth of this "spy" story anyway. Like of all other stories, in fact.
"No one will ever reveal the content of these documents. Most probably, the investigation and the trial will be classified because the case deals with the state secret", - Shota Utiashvili, head of the analytical and information department at the Georgian ministry of interior told in an interview with Kommersant. Right: in Saakashvili's police regime the reason why a Canadian kitchen maid is appointed economy minister is a state secret too. As well as the reason why she fell ill.
