Only God will save Sakartvelo2011-08-05 22:32
Other institutions have to tackle problems that are usually solved by the government in civilized countries when local authorities are impotent. Georgia's unemployment and poverty, two desperate issues, have been taken up by the Church with Ilia II calling on businessmen to provide assistance to schools and claiming that the GOC's contribution to resolution of the problem of unemployment is the biggest. Well, it seems this burden will be shifted from the state onto the patriarch.
While president Mikheil Saakashvili is full of enthusiasm declaring that all is fine in his country, and that the entire world envies Georgia, real problems of the country pass onto serious and thoughtful people. No "reforms" manage to stop a slow but inevitable downslide of the country into the abyss of unemployment and poverty. Because no reform has a goal. Almost all Georgia does is a bright façade hiding a painful degradation of the country.
Production is not being revived or created in Sakartvelo. Agriculture is almost ruined with employees of the Ministry of agriculture sitting on top of debris suggesting silly initiatives: "Let's grow crocodiles! Let's grow frogs!" And why don't you all go to hell instead? And the staff of the ministry will change completely. After all, if it was OK with the police, and the newly recruited personnel still makes the Georgian government cry with pride, maybe it will make sense with other state agencies too?
For the time being unemployment that Georgia is wrapped in outside Tbilisi, has to be solved by those who are able to grasp and acknowledge the problem. It is also an important point since the majority of officials prefer to think that everything is lovely and rosy.
Maybe, there is something symbolic in the fact that the Church was the first to lend a helping hand to the poor and unemployed. Indeed, if there is someone to have pity on Georgia, it's only God. It's useless to wait for mercy from foreign "friends" or the country's government.
"No other organization is as active solving the unemployment issue as the Church is. I don't know any other organization where so many people work", - Georgian patriarch Ilia II said at Church and Economy conference held by the International Center of Christian Studies.
