Saakashvili’s rotten necktie

2011-09-15 21:02

Saakashvili’s rotten necktie. 22050.jpegPR-sidekicks of the Georgian president are trying to keep up with their eccentric boss presenting the so-called "new national product of Georgia" - "a tie edible, reformatory". Levan Cholokashvili and Oleg Panfilov, inventors of this creative project, consider it a gesture of subtle humor and self-irony.

A spoon is dear when lunchtime is near, and irony is good when there is a good occasion. Self-irony in particular. Disgracing oneself or doing a stupid thing one had better either laugh immediately with the others, or not laugh at all. It is pretty strange to roar with laughter when everyone forgot the embarrassment. Looks like a giraffe from an anecdote that laughs all night at a hippo's jokes made during the day.

With the help of PR-assistants Levan Cholokashvili from the Coalition for European Georgia and Oleg Panfilov, a journalist, the president of Georgia made an impression of this long slow-thinking animal. Those authors seem to suffer the deficit of creative ideas in their heads recalling a necktie chewed by the president live on air. They shook naphthalene off this story presenting it as a witty product. By the way, they insulted the entire Georgia stating that it is a "national" thing.

Recently Tiflis Avenue gallery in Tbilisi was hosting the presentation of the "new national product of Georgia" named "A necktie edible, reformatory". It is made from grape paste tklapi, packed in a plastic container and has a note explaining that "regular use of it facilitates reforms in life, improves its quality and brings in democratic values". It's logical to add: Georgians, look around. Can't you see that eating ties by your president led to this very result in Sakartvelo? Probably, he didn't eat enough of them?

Oleg Panfilov stated that the idea of an edible tie dawned on him after a long study of Russian propaganda, when he realized that propaganda slips should be sneered at".

Halleluiah! It's been three years since the entire world including Russia laughed at Saakashvili chewing his necktie live on CNN air. Thousands of cartoons, parodies, millions of jokes... But any good joke can't last forever, and people forgot the notorious tie. And here is Oleg Panfilov with his long and thorough study of "propaganda" saying it's time to sneer. Indeed, he is as slow as a giraffe... Solitary laughter of joy from Tbilisi.
