Georgia loses Borodino battle2011-09-15 21:04
Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze reconfirms his uselessness and helplessness of the country's diplomacy. The new round of talks with Russia on terms of WTO entry has ended with no result. In the meantime, there is less time to bargain out terms for honorary surrender that would help the regime keep its face. Pressure on the Avlabari puppet grows, and the comparison of Russia's stand with Borodino battle, as the head of Georgian diplomacy put it, is not incidental. Yet, Georgian camarilla is no match for the French emperor.
"Talks on Russia's accession to WTO are progressing with difficulty. Both sides know positions of each other. The Georgian side constantly offers compromise, while the Russian side, as if it were Borodino battle, stubbornly holds its ground on the issues. I can't reveal other detains of the talks. The Georgian side complies with the agreement on non-disclosure of details of the talks", - Grigol Vashadze said at a press-conference. A new attempt to come to mutually acceptable terms of Russia's WTO entry is scheduled for October.
We can only feel sorry for Grigol Vashadze. He has to be in charge of Saakashvili's irresponsible Russophobia placing Georgian diplomats in an extremely awkard position. Apparently, he hoped he won't be punished for years of mud-throwing at Moscow, that greenhouse relationships with the West based on Bush Junior's protection, will last forever. But he is not the first who was wrong, and now it's diplomats that have to pick up the pieces. But the issue is tough and Vashadze's subordinates have to present the fact of talks as a serious achievement.
"Georgia views continuation of talks as an important and successful fact, - deputy FM Nino Kalandadze remarked before the start of the latest round. - The result of the talks is that we don't have reasons to stop them. The sides have passed from the process of formal talks to essential consideration of specific proposals. Georgia is constructive over the issues and we hope we will succeed".
What else does Georgia have to do? Russia's WTO entry is a strategic goal of the Western community. Recently firmness of the US position was reconfirmed by Kent Logsdon, director of the Russian department of the US Department of State. For Washington it is a number two task after the country's overcoming the economic crisis. Barack Obama's administration understands well that Russia can play a noticeable role to revive US economy. "The next point of the administration's agenda will be Russia's WTO entry", - the US official said. There are more obstacles on Russia's way toward accession, but the end of the process can be seen".
