A Farewell to American Arms!

2011-09-19 15:27

A Farewell to American Arms!. 22138.jpegThe Georgian authorities have once again raised the issue of arms supplies to Georgian army from the United States. But there is one problem: local politicians do not even check out their instructions from the center with each other during their foreign voyages to designate a single position of the Saakashvili regime. So, it turns out that almost at the same time Georgian officials make statements different in their meaning. The Ambassador of Tbilisi in Washington Temuri Yakobashvili has assured the whole world that Georgia can buy even tanks "Abrams" if it would have money.

But the State Minister on Integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures Baramidze have reproached the Americans for their fear of Russia which is preventing the U.S. to give Caucasian republic the modern weapons.

Recall, recently the Georgian envoy to the United States boasted about excellent relations of Washington and Tbilisi. Allegedly, nothing can prevent the two brotherly nations to establish relations in any field, whether it's tourism, trade or arms - even despite the obvious displeasure of Moscow. And there is only one reason preventing the Georgian army from being able to intimidate the northen neighbor with the power of American military industrial complex. This is banal lack of funds. "How serious and sophisticated weapons of a defensive type will Georgia get depends only on the financial capacity of Georgia ... If we want America to sell us the tanks "Abrams", the sole problem is that we have not enough money" - the Georgian diplomat said.

All anything, but a couple of days later, Baramidze, who currently holds the position, previously owned by Yakobashvili, has actually refuted his words. "It's no secret that the U.S. does not want unnecessary tension in relations with Russia and this fact has a certain effect on our military cooperation with the Americans ... In general, this does not prevent us from carrying out such major projects as the training of our soldiers, does not affect our cooperation in Afghanistan, as well as from the questions that we promote in NATO" - he said during his visit to the United States. He has also confirmed the obvious truth: Washington is not going to break with the policy of "resetting" because of the small state in the Caucasus. How would the authorities of Sakartvelo fawn upon the U.S. in an attempt to prove their loyalty and willingness to any adventure for getting extra cartridge to M-16. And it is clear that Georgia is not going to be limited with light weapons.
