Georgian PM submitted resignation

2009-01-31 00:31

Grigol Mgaloblishvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, submitted resignation, he himself stated on January 30th at the briefing in Tbilisi.

"I'm very sorry I have to resign as my health leaves me no chance to work in this position further, Regnum quotes. -I've been on treatment for a month and, according to doctors, I need two more months of treatment. In such conditions we have no right to have the Prime Minister, who cannot fully execute his duties, especially in conditions of the global economic crisis".

Mgaloblishvili thanked the government members for cooperation and said that he, together with the President and the government, is always ready to "implement what we planned together". According to Mgaloblishvili, he intends to present the present-day Minister of Finance, Nika Gilauri, to the President as a possible successor.

Let us remind that in recent month Mgaloblishvili has been undergoing the course of treatment in Germany. His diagnosis is nephropathy (inflammation of kidneys, caused by an infection).
