Ivanishvili discovers America?2011-12-19 20:04
Almost immediately after Georgian mass media stopped discussing creation of an opposition coalition between Bidzina Ivanishvili, Free Democrats and Republicans, the Georgian billionaire came up with a new sensation.
Today opponents of Georgia's current regime have met US deputy assistant secretary of state Eric Rubin. According to the oppositionists, the guest from overseas has demonstrated high interest to Bidzina Ivanishvili in Georgian politics.
"Eric Rubin considers Bidzina Ivanishvili's appearance on Georgia's political scene as a crucial event", - David Usupashvili, head of the Republican party emphasized adding that elections must be "fair and competitive" taking into account this fact", - VZGLYAD newspaper writes. Leader of the New Rights David Gamkrelidze expresses confidence that Bidzina Ivanishvili's advent to politics has "intensified interest of the American side to the parliamentary election in 2012", and the United States started to monitor processes connected with elections in Georgia before the prescheduled term.
For the time being the authorities of the republic have not reacted to the visit of Rubin and his meeting with the opposition. The only thing the dominant party mentioned was creation of a coalition involving Ivanishvili, Irakli Alasania (Georgia's former UN envoy, now leader of Free Democrats) and David Usupashvili, leader of the Republican party. As Vakhtang Balavadze, deputy of the National Movement stated, this trinity were sticking together all the time. "It is not really interesting what legal form this group will have", - he explained. Balavadze doubts that any of the persons above has or had a special political rating. "This is return to the past. Everyone knows whom Bidzina Ivanishvili is associated with, while Irakli Alasania and David Usupashvili simply did self-lustration", - the majority deputy added.
By all appearances, this statement will find lots of opponents. Nearly 7,000 people came to support the new office of Ivanishvili's Georgian dream public movement in mid-week. The people were full of hope speaking about times when Ivanishvili will govern, that he will solve the unemployment problem. "I will stand by those who really care about Georgia's well-being. Bidzina Ivanishvili has done a lot of good to the country and people. He has all resources - both mental and financial to keep taking care of Georgia", - Giya Haindrava, resident of Tbilisi is sure.
