Syrian Circassians deprived of their homeland2012-02-02 20:32
Syrian Circassians are trying to return to their historic homeland - the Russian Caucasus. The Circassians have perceived the words of the head of Adygea Aslan Tkhakushinov that "homeland should receive its sons and daughters" as a hope for new life. But when they arrived in Maikop, the head of Adygea gas refused to receive the delegation without explaining the reasons. Diaspora advised Tkhakushinov to resign. In the Caucasus, leaving a brother in trouble is considered a crime worse than murder.
All the world Circassian print resources have published a letter by Nancy Huth, the Syrian Circassian girl. A brief message from Nancy, written in English, tells the story of the Syrian Caucasians in the midst of the "Arab spring". The general tone of her notes - save our souls.
Here's how Nancy started her letter. "We are the Circassian family from Syria. We had to flee to save our lives. We are now in the Czech Republic".
23 year old Nancy is the eldest daughter in a large family. Her father served for many years in the Air Force Intelligence in Syria. In 2004 he resigned and started business. Quiet life of Huth, Sr. (he refused to say his name) ended in 2011. Retired intelligence officer was mobilized by "Mukhabarat". Soon he has realized that he would be forced to kill. "I have worked in this system for 30 years and I knew what they wanted from me. But I do not want to kill people", Nancy recorded her father's words. The story of Nancy's father about the Syrian events was simple: a civil war is raging in Syria. Almighty "Mukhabarat" is unable to cope with terrorists abroad. Repressive machine of Syrian intelligence has turned against ordinary citizens. Separate wave of terror took place among non-Arab part of the Syrian people: among the Circassians, Kurds, Druze. Naturally, the father of a family with many children used the first opportunity and moved his family to Prague.
Czech Republic met the Huths cordially. But the aim of the Syrian Circassians was not asylum in Europe. In her letter, Nancy recorded long-standing desire of her father. "I want to start life anew. My homeland - Adygea - is in Russia. I just want to get there, having received a refuge or by any way". Circassian family from Syria sincerely hoped that the historic land would give them "refugee status or some other status" to start a new life in Adygea.
