Saakashvili as a deputy?2012-02-10 19:16
As rumored in Georgia, current president of the republic Mikheil Saakashvili plans to go for deputyship from Gldani district of Tbilisi he is now actively modernizing instead of becoming PM after his presidential powers expire. Will residents of Tbilisi reciprocate?
An idea that Mikheil Nikolayevich has deputy ambitions was presented by Inga Grigolia, a former journalist, now representative of the oppositional Christian-Democratic party. She stated he knew about Saakashvili's intentions to become a majority deputy in Gldani. "I have reliable information that Saakashvili plans to become a majority deputy from Gldani district, - Grigolia says. - If you recall the recent period (construction projects in the district, Toto Cutugno's concert and so on), this information does look believable".
The plan, Grigolia highlights, is simple. Saakashvili might even do without support of residents of Tbilisi. After the victory of the dominant National Movement party and
presidential elections in the country, the deputy from Gldani district will be promoted to public offices and his place in the municipality is replaced by the former president of the country. Probably, some interim voting will be organized. Yet, there is strange confidence that no serious obstacles will arise here.
There are more things. Inga Grigolia revealed a rather curious configuration of "post-Saakashvili" Georgia. For instance, the seat of prime minister that enjoys wide powers will be offered to current minister of economy Veronica Kobalia or Giga Bokeria, presently in charge of the Security Council. They both are inside Saakashvili's team as favorites. And Grigolia predicts that Vera will get the post: she is good-looking, speaks good English and has "no political ambitions". As history shows, these three components have always been crucial for Mikheil Nikolayevich.
As for a "decorative president" that a new head of the state will be in compliance with new amendments to the constitution, Grigolia predicts it will be current speaker of parliament David Bakradze. "He is an ideal option. Firstly he is submissive and secondly, unlike others, Bakradze has no black stains", - the journalist specifies.
In a conversation with GTimes, Petre Mamradze, an oppositional parliamentary, suggested that Saakashvili's deputy prospects look well-grounded. "Since the time of the Rose Revolution he has been particularly attentive to Gldani district", - Mamradze said. - His purpose is clear - to retain power. To become PM is an ideal variant.
