Saakasvili protects Georgia even with his teeth2012-02-13 18:14
Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili met with the priest, father Jonah, who was kidnapped and was held by the kidnappers on the territory of Abkhazia. "We will defend our citizens with our teeth and by all the means we have", the president said. Earlier, Georgian Interior Ministry announced that "after 25 days spent in captivity on the territory of Abkhazia, occupied by Russia, the Father Jonah (Mamuka Maisuradze) was released by the Interior Ministry.
As reported by Newsgeorgia.ru on the eve, February 11, in Tbilisi, Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili met with the priest, father Jonah, who was kidnapped and was held by the kidnappers on the territory of Abkhazia.
"I am very glad that you are free. And everyone has learned that if our people would be detained and their freedom would be limited, we would make an appropriate response", the president stated. "We are ready to protect every person by all means even despite the fact that we are a small country", Saakashvili added.
The president stated that everyone was really concerned about the kidnapping of the priest, and had been engaged in his release.
"We will defend our citizens with our teeth and by all the means we have", the president said.
He added that a ransom was not paid, but "those people got what they deserved". "I won't tell all the details since there still may be the need to do this in the future. I think these people got it, but if they do not - we'd explain them and they would tell the others, that the deprivation our citizens of their freedom and lives must be followed by a response. The lawlessness there is a big misfortune. It's great fortune that you have managed to escape from this iniquity", Mikhail Saakashvili told father Jonah.
Father Jonah himself called his release excellent operation and thanked the government. In his opinion, Georgia is a mature state.
"Special operation has been completed bloodless. It had been a criminal group. They've made a corridor for me, and I went out. The guys met me, and I was really happy. May God protect you. God help Batoni Soso, Batoni Data, those who have participated and supervised the operation. Our country is mature state and these actions have proved it", Father Jonah said.
