Revolt in Azerbaijani district center of Guba started after the head of district administration Rauf Khabibov had accused local residents of mercenariness. In response, thousands of enraged people demanded an apology and the official's resignation. Khabibov presented his apologies, but it did not help, Newsru.com wrote on Thursday.
By Wednesday evening, the protesters in the Azerbaijani district center of Guba (170 kilometers north of Baku), committed a series of arson attacks. In particular, they set fire to the house of the head of district administration Rauf Khabibov. In addition, they burned barns of district administration and a teahouse. According to the deputy head of the district police, Azer Rzayev, the unrest is being continued. "While we are trying to keep the situation under control, but we are waiting for reinforcement", he said.
The protesters are "attacking the objects belonging to the Chief Executive". No information about the detainees yet. According to certain media, some of the protesters have been detained. Other editions have reported no detention, citing police.
According to the "Reporter", armored vehicles and internal troops have been sent to the Azerbaijani the center district of Guba. They are followed by three armored personnel carriers, several water-jet machines and 10 trucks loaded with soldiers.
