In the opinion of the U.S. President Barack Obama which he expressed at a press conference at the White House, there is no simple solution of the Syrian issue, the RBC reported today.

When asked by the reporters whether international intervention in the conflict is possible, as it had happened in Libya, Obama said that for the world community it is important that the Syrian President Bashar Assad would have resigned.

"I think no one will argue that the international community has expressed a common opinion on the matter. And the question is not whether Bashar al-Assad would resign - the only question is when he would resign. His regime isn't legitimate any more. His actions against his own people are unforgivable, and no one questions this fact", the US President said.

Obama noted also: "On the other hand, it's mistakenly to suggest that we can take unilateral military action and that this problem is easily solved. In the case of Libya, we were able to quickly mobilize the international community, to receive the mandate from the UN Security Council, as well as to enlist the full support of the Arab States in the region. Moreover, we knew that we could act very effectively and in the short time. The situation in Syria is much more complex".

At the same time, Obama's rival, Republican Senator John McCain has urged the U.S. authorities to deliver air strikes on Syrian territory to provide assistance to the opposition in the country.

As reported by the Lenta.ru, according to the senator, the bombing of the Syrian military positions was "the only realistic way" to help Bashar Assad's opponents. McCain stated that the supply of arms and military equipment to the rebel Free Syrian Army, as well as others opposition groups, was also a necessary factor, but without attacks from the air they would not help "stop the carnage and save innocent lives".
