2012-03-28 17:52

A program for employment of students was launched in Georgia. Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is ready to employ up to four thousand students in framework of the program Summer Job. Registration of students willing to participate in the project was launched on March 20.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, according to the head of the department Ramaz Nikolaishvili, during a meeting with the students at the Georgian Technical University, "the ministry intends to employ up to four thousand students in framework of the project". "The best of them will have a possibility to get a permanent job in our ministry and its departments", Nikolaishvili said.

In turn, spokesman of the President of Georgia Manana Manjgaladze stated the program would affect 25,000 students, the registration would last until April 20, and the students would work from July 20 to August 20. According to Manjgaladze, salary will amount 500 lari (about $ 315), the edition reported.

The aim of the project is not to place students in job exactly on those professions which they are acquiring. The young people have got the opportunity to choose from vacancies the most suitable for them. For the most part, such jobs are provided by construction and law firms, museums, hospitals, government bodies, office cleaning in urban areas, the Tbilisi Week reported.

As expected, the program was to develop as follows. A student, who wants to earn money during the summer, must register himself on a special website of the program in an electronic format, without leaving his home. After that, the volunteer receives a unique code, email address and employer address of the branch of the bank, where he will receive a plastic card. In the future, employer will draw salary on this card. From April 5 to May 15, registered students should go to the employer and make employment agreement.

It should be noted that according to a survey conducted by the U.S. National Democratic Institute of USA (NDI) in September 2011, the problem of unemployment is the most important in Georgia. 62% of the inhabitants of the republic called the impossibility of finding a normal job as one of the main problems. However, according to official reports, the unemployment in Georgia amounts about 15%.

Despite the officials' assurances, registration of Georgian students, willing to participate in this program, is already over. "The registration was completed in a few days. Interest from students was so great that 24,986 students were registered for 25,000 jobs already in the morning of March 27", Manjgaladze said.
