Georgia hails the decision on OSCE mandate prolongation

Today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia issued the statement, hailing the Decision adopted by the OSCE Permanent Council on 12 February 2009 to extend until 30 June 2009 its Decision No. 861 of 19 August 2008 concerning the deployment of an increased number of military monitoring officers on the territory of Georgia.

"We believe that this important decision adopted by the OSCE Permanent Council will contribute to unequivocal implementation of all requirements of Decision N861envisaging presence of an additional number of 80 OSCE observers on the territory of Georgia", the Ministry states.

The official Tbilisi highlights that the international monitors must "be granted the possibility to fulfill their mandated tasks throughout the territory of Georgia, in the Russian-occupied regions, in particular, where occupiers are engaged in continuous military build-up and militarization posing a serious threat to Georgia and the region as a whole".
