Diplomatic body joins the battle2009-02-18 13:21
Yesterday Georgia's ex Ambassador to the UN Irakli Alasania who filed his resignation last December and turned to the opposition presented his team. The key players are his ex colleagues, ex diplomats. There are eight people in total united by the slogan "We create tomorrow's future today".
At the presentation of the professional association of oppositionists that was held in the overcrowded conference hall of a fashionable Marriott hotel the specific action plan was proclaimed for the first time. Irakli Alasania announced priorities for the future reorganization of Georgia.
They were mainly connected with economy issues. The new economic platform was defined. According to its authors' convictions it must guarantee steady economic growth, observance of proprietary right and assistance to free production. The development of territorial-industrial economy, assistance to agriculture and support for tourism were accentuated.
The leader of the new team came forward with the initiative to create independent arbitration court that would investigate cases of violation of right to private ownership. "Very often the owners are forced to renounce their property in favor of the state. No development of market economy is possible in a country where common rights are not protected", - he is quoted by GHN IA.
Irakli Alasania shared some of his political views: "Business community must cooperate with the government without any dictate from any party. Social policy and economic priorities must be outlined. More attention must be paid to health care and education. The Interior Ministry budget is more than the education budget. That indicates the country's wrong priorities".
According to him Georgian business people and public persons living in America will help to implement the economic plan he presented. These people have not been in direct contact with the Georgian government as yet. Their names were not mentioned. However Alasania's team hardly suffers from shortage of foreign friends as the newborn opposition association comprises Viktor Dolidze who recently vacated the post of Ambassador to the OSCE as a protest against the country leaders' policy, Levan Mikeladze, who following the violent dispersion of the opposition demonstrations in Tbilisi in November 2007 defiantly refused the appointment of Ambassador to Switzerland, Georgia's ex Ambassador to Russia Zurab Abashidze.
