2012-07-19 13:47

Meanwhile, the international community has various positions in regard of the election in Nagorno-Karabakh. The EU does not recognize the constitutional and legal framework of the presidential elections in the country. This was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, the reported.

"These "elections" should not prejudice the determination of the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh within the overall framework of negotiations for a peaceful settlement of the conflict", said in a statement of the EU High Representative.

At the same time, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry considers the presidential election in Nagorno-Karabakh Armenia's provocative step. "These actions not only do not serve peace, but also is a blow to the negotiating process and shows Armenia's commitment to maintain the status quo and the lack of Yerevan's political will for a peaceful settlement", Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said on July 18 at a briefing, the Armenia Today reported.

Regarding the participation of observers from different countries, Elman Abdullaev said these people would be found undesirable in Azerbaijan in connection with a visit to the occupied territories without the consent of the authorities.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry also stated, "the fact of so-called election in Nagorno-Karabakh contradicts the obligations adopted before the OSCE and under the UN Security Council resolutions", the official website of the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated.
