Tourists don't love Kobuleti anymore?. 27837.jpeg

Georgian resort of Kobuleti is impatiently waiting for this August in the hope of increasing the number of holidaymakers. Last year, the holiday season failed. The owners of private hotels are not able to settle their debts to the banks, and according to the law, they may face a sale of the property. Loan terms of about 300 families were extended. But, apparently, this year the season won't justify expectations. The Bank has already confiscated several houses of defaulters.

July has ended. The owners of hotels in Kobuleti spent it in expectation of profit, which could be spent on the payment of Bank loans. But the flow of holidaymakers has not really increased.

«I don't know what happened, why there are so few tourists. We have created all conditions, all required for recreation. Apparently, the price is high, but what should we do? The Bank grants the loan under a very high percentage. The banks have ruined us. I have not taken out a Bank loan only thanks to the help of my brother. He lended me part of the money, he also granted me another part of money, otherwise I would have found myself in the same situation as our neighbors - under the open sky. The Bank has confiscated the house of Takidze family. This family equipped their house with modern amenities during whole life, and that's what happened to them! The Bank takes high percent, and we take high rent for accommodation for holidaymakers. Therefore, tourists do not come in Kobuleti, but go to other resorts, for example, in Turkey", says Nelly Jincharadze, the owner of a private hotel.

The black sea resorts of Kvariati, Gonio, Anaklia, Tsikhisdziri, Ureki, Chakvi and Bobokvati are no worse than the rest of the black sea resorts, but the prices for the Georgian population are too high, and the foreigners come in such a small quantity that the locals are barely able to pay the debts on credits and receive little income.

Madona Tkhilashvili: "Look at my house-hotel, it is no worse than any hotel! But I had to greatly lower the price, maybe this will draw tourists so that to get at least a minimal profit and partly repay Bank debt. The Bank has extended the term of payment of the debt until October, but I'm not sure that I will be able to pay it off. Georgians do not come here, only the Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Ukrainians and Balts, and then very little. They are very grasping; they count every penny, bargaining for everything". Kobuleti lady is missing the wasteful Georgian visitors.
