In Tskhinval, the mourning events dedicated to the fourth anniversary of the attack of the Georgian troops on South Ossetia in August 2008, take place. This was reported by the Interfax correspondent from the place of the events.
An exhibition "War hrough the eyes of paintings", representing the paintings that had received damaged during the hostilities, was opened on the Theatre Square in the center of the city. Paintings of famous South Ossetian artists with the damage from the fragments of the Georgian shells became one of the symbols of those tragic days.
Residents and guests of South Ossetia have gathered to honor the memory of the victims of the war. President of the Republic Leonid Tibilov, the Parliament deputies and members of the government also have arrived to take part in the mourning events.
The Rural Dean of the city of Tskhinval father Jacob, in his address to the audience, spoke about the need to remember the tragic days of August 2008. "We all gathered here today to remember those days and tell about them to our children. We pay tribute to the memory of those who defended us, those who gave their lives, those who have remained alive and finds the strength to live further. Today is also the feast, because we have opportunity to continue to live on our native land", he noted.
Meanwhile, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is still conducting the investigation of the criminal case on the events in South Ossetia in August 2008. The period of the investigation was extended to February 8, 2013. The total number of volumes of the criminal case exceeds 400, says the official statement by the RF IC.
According to the Committee, thorough medical examinations of places of accidents were carried out; several thousands of witnesses, victims and experts were questioned; there were carried out about 600 forensic examinations and other investigative activities.
In addition, in the RF IC reported about careful examination of the version about the allegedly unlawful actions of the Russian troops on the territory of the Georgian settlements. However, this version has not found its confirmation. More than 100 residents of South Ossetia, who claim that Russian troops were not involved in committing illegal actions, but prevented the looters from committing arson and looting, were questioned. Georgian competent authorities also have failed to present evidence of the crimes of the Russian military.
