Nino Burjanadze's novation2009-02-25 10:24
Nino Burdzhanadze, the "Democratic movement - United Georgia" leader invented a new way of achieving common goals of the opposition. Like fairy-tale Ratcatcher took the kids away from Hameln punishing the town's mayor for greediness the ex Prime Minister called on officials from Mikheil Saakashvili's government to abandon their "places in the sun".
Nino Burdzhanadze got down to destroying Saakashvili's team "from the inside". On February 20 as GeorgiaTimes reported she called on civil servants to make a timely choice and walk off the "criminal government". "I address all specialists, professionals, experts on whom the prospects and the future of the country's development rely, to state officials: do not take part in dirty schemes planned by the government, do not violate laws, serve the people and not Saakashvili's stubborn ambitions", - Burdzhanadze proclaimed calling to the compatriots' self-esteem. Those who will refuse to resign will "be responsible for what they did", she threatened. Under the ex Prime Minister's plan Saakashvili who will be left alone will have no other way out but voluntary
Before Burdzhanadze the ideas of peaceful overthrow of the president were proposed by "People's Assembly" and "National Front" leaders suggesting "correction" of the government's actions not excluding mass protests (People's Assembly) or stressing on rebellions (National Front).
In mid January Nino Burdzhanadze had some doubts about the necessity of "street policy". But a few days ago calling on the opposition to get united she stated: "Georgian society must face the authorities and by voting "live" confirm its strong will to change this disabled and unpromising regime and if necessary to call presidential elections". New Region-South Caucasus IA interpreted this phrase as readiness to change power by way of protest. This interpretation seems to be quite truthful as the "Democratic Movement - United Georgia" leader also states about possible manipulations in the use of administrative resource on the part of the current authorities in case of early elections or a referendum. If this is what will happen the country will witness a farce similar to 2008 elections, Burdzhanadze believes.
In other words the ex Prime Minister is getting ready to protest actions in spring having little faith in efficiency of a referendum demanding the president's resignation.
Earlier the idea of nation-wide voting was expressed by Georgia's ex Ambassador to the UN Irakli Alasania who now has his own opposition team. By the way even he does not deny the possibility of his supporters' participation in protest actions.
