Hard times for "Saakashvili's mouthpieces"2012-10-12 14:27
Throughout recent years, the main Georgian TV channels are tightly controlled by the authorities. Now their management does not know what to do - there is no money for broadcasting, and their customers have disappeared in an unknown direction.
Several author's programs of the Georgian Public Television have closed. Conflict between the management and the journalists is brewing. It seems that after the change of power the management of one of the mouthpieces of Saakashvili's regime is in extremely hard state.
Public broadcaster has simultaneously closed several author's programs. The author and host of the program "Audience" Eka Khoperia says until the the old leadership of channel remains, she is not going to return there.
Also, according to the spread information, the host of the newscasts Tatia Tolordava has also left the channel. "After watching the horrific footage of inhumane tortures in prisons I met with Giorgi Chanturia, channel CEO, and told him we must urgently meet with the students protesting on this occasion. I never said that I was going to leave the channel, since I was not going do this, but as a result I was fired", Tolordava says.
Author and host Vakho Sana is not going to leave the channel and continues the fight. "Chanturia never could interfere in my program, since we had pretty sufficient distance; but when the whole world saw the video from prison, and on our channel did not say a word about it, I was outraged", Vakho Sanaia says.
It is known that there was no much trust between the channel head Gia Chanturia and journalistic team.
A similar situation takes place on the channel "Imedi", taken away by the government from the businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili. The CEO and principal owner of the shares of the "Imedi" is former member of the government and a close to a bygone power Giorgi Arveladze. On his initiative, the channel closed all programs, except for the newscasts. Program of Otar Tatishvili "Day Show" and "Nanuka's Show" - program of Nanuka Zhorzholiani, more commonly known to the audience due to its family history, rather than interesting stories, were closed. Zhorzholiani's husband, businessman Erekle Kodua along with his brother, is from the entourage of a circle of influential people close to Saakashvili. Their names are associated with nothing good in the society. Today the two brothers-businessmen, who "acquired" much in Georgia, are in a difficult position: Erekle Kodua has just become a supporter of the victorious opposition, and his brother still supports the interests of the "National Movement".
