Saakashvili’s miserable pittance to peasants2012-11-28 17:55
The village of Chkhari, Terdzholskiy District of Georgia, has only one spring. It is supplying 350 families of the village with water. There is no other spring. However, instead of repaired water pipes the peasants have got a "House of dominoes" under the mandatory funding of the village. The local administration claims the people themselves have requested this room, but the people are denying this. Residents believe that they have got a miserable pittance in exchange for the fact that they had voted for Ivanishvili.
The lack of water is not the only problem in the village of Chkhari. Like in the rest of Georgia, unemployment reigns here. Every year, the number of abandoned houses grows. Heads of families travel to the cities in search of work to feed their families somehow.
Despite these serious problems, the leadership of the village has taken a strange decision - to erect a "House of dominoes" in the town center. The situation would look funny if not anger among the local residents who are tired of the lack of basic living conditions. Many of them believe that this house is one of the unsuccessful attempts of the authorities to bribe them before the election, because the construction of the "House of dominoes" was started right before the election, and, of course, was stopped right after it.
What is this place? This is a small 20 square meters building, located in a clearing in the center of the village. According to official data, its construction took 10 thousand lari (about 6500 USD). The main purpose of this "little room" is the place of meeting for the people who want to play a game of dominoes. House was not completed. Today, the remains of building materials are being stored here, so it's impossible to use it.
As stated above, the population of Chkhari associates construction of the house with an attempt of supporters of the "National Movement" to enlist the support of voters. And the head of the district argues that before the election the people have appealed to majoritarian MP Kakha Butshridze asking about building this house. I wonder why the same people have not appealed to the leadership of the village with a request to establish water supply?
"Our village seems to be like after the bombing", said Zviad Partladze, Chkhari resident. "Why might we need such a house? Population is fleeing to the city. Should we play dominoes? This was an idea of the "National Movement" before the election. As soon as they lost they left the house unfinished"
