Georgian authorities refused to fulfill demands of the opposition
2009-03-05 15:00Georgian authorities refused to call a referendum on early presidential elections issue.
This demand was the ultimatum the Alliance for Georgia[opposition union of Georgian ex-Permanent Representative to the UN Irakli Alasania's supporters; comprises the Republican party and the New Rights party] presented to Mikheil Saakashvili.
The term of the ultimatum expires today - RosBalt.
As Akakiy Minashvili,the chairman of the parliamentary committee for foreign relations, said to Imedi TV company, the authorities of Georgia has enough priority objectives reaching of which the referendum may impede.
"We have several very important priorities- ensuring the security of the country and employment of the population, allocation of cheap credits, insurance. Everyone in the authorities are orientated to reach these objectives. The referendum, aimed to hold early elections, will obstacle completion of the set tasks", he said.
At the same time, Minashvili called for the opposition to reach them by joint effort. "We offer the opposition a dialog on issues and priorities, important for the Georgian people, but not for political games and satisfaction of political ambitions. Surely, we do not support holding the referendum," he informed.
