The most visible result of Saakashvili's era in Georgia is the fountains. Behind his back the president was even called "Fountain the first". They sprang up like mushrooms after the rain once the power in the country changed in 2004. But, if sensing the change of epochs, the fountains fell into despondency - the solemnity has disappeared, and the lights have gone out. And the fate of the beloved Saakashvili's fountain in Kutaisi is pretty sorrowful.

"Kolkheti fountain" in the second largest Georgian city of Kutaisi was opened almost a year ago. Its opening was attended by the president Mikheil Saakashvili, who called the new city landmark his "most dear fountain". The people often called Saakashvili "Fountain the first" and the president knows this. Saakashvili did not take offence and did not take this nickname as derision, and in contrast he was rather proud of his nickname. "Since I am called "Fountain the first", I give this fountain an advantage over other fountains, and from now on it will be my most dear fountain!" The president said this on May 9 of 2012, during the "Kutaiskalakoba", a holiday devoted to the city of Kutaisi.

But the fountain's epoch appeared short. After working for two months, it has stopped, died out like a volcano. Money spent on the fountain was washed away by its own water. There is now one big hole increasing due to leaky pipes. For some people unfinished fountain is object of derision, for others - something much more serious. What was the reason of erection of the fountain? Whether it was necessary to spend millions on its construction?

The reason for stopping the fountain was more than prosaic - it is unfinished. Although the amount allocated from the budget of Kutaisi was enormous, it was not enough for the "miracle fountain".

The "favorite fountain of the president" was constructed by the public company "Construction 2011"; however, to this day there is no instrument of acceptance of a facility, and the company has to pay daily fine of 3 500 GEL because of construction delays. Kutaisi leader of the "Georgian Dream" Mamuka Mgvdeladze said in an interview to GTimes that 100 workers involved in the construction of the fountain have received only half of their salary so far.

"Kolkheti fountain" is quite an impressive structure, it fully lives up to its name. It is decorated with the impressive figures - symbols of ancient Colchis, which were designed to have been lacquered. The fountain was to produce high water jet of 2.5 meters, and its width reaches 9.5 meters. But untreated internal filters do not allow it working properly.
