Eurovision-09: it it’s not late to resing “We don’t wanna”

2009-03-14 14:39

9/8/3/1983.jpegIn spite of Stephane & 3G's public refusal to take part in Eurovision the contest managers have not received the written decision yet. Meanwhile there are opinions in Georgia suggesting a compromise and replacement of both - the song and the performers.

By today the contest managers have had no notification of refusal to take part in Eurovision -2009 from Georgia. It was reported in the contest steering committee to RIA Novosti.

The matter of presence of Georgian Stephane &3G singing "We don't wanna put in" at Eurovision-2009 that will be held in Moscow practically ousted topics of Georgia's internal political life from the Russian media. Immediately after Tbilisi decided to participate in the contest the singing girls stated their song would be a protest against Russia's actions.

However the contest managers made the group refer to Eurovision's explicit rule - no politically colored songs. If Stephane & 3G had omitted the assonance at the end of the line there would have been no scandal - one could have heard many things. But acting as they did the fellows simply blocked their way to the contest. European Broadcasting Union discarded the song asking Georgia to either rewrite the lyrics or select another song before March 16. As Diana Gurtskaya who represented Georgia at Eurovision last year said Stephane & 3G had found themselves in the position of "spanked children" who had been given time to improve.

But they preferred to make faces and put their dirty fingers on their noses as Pinocchio did and drop out of the contest at all. Yesterday on March 11 it was stated by Natia Uznadze, the project manager of the contest in Georgia. Now Europe will not be able to see Stephane & 3G...

Many people in Georgia do not approve and even condemn self-assurance and show-off of Stephane Mgebrishvili, Nini Badurashvili, Tako Gachechiladze and Christina Imedadze unknown before.

Nani Bregvadze whose reputation is indisputable believes that the requirement of the broadcasting union must be complied with. Eurovision is a serious contest. "I think certain changes can be made as the replacement of just one word would be enough to meet the existing requirements", - Bregvadze told RIA Novosti today. According to the singer if she had taken part in the qualification process she "would have prevented any aggression at the very beginning".

In fact the organizers of the internal contest should have consulted competent persons before selecting a scandalous song.
