A drugs PR-test

11.03.2010  |  22:36

- This is not an opinion, I know it for sure. That's a fact. I do not care whether anyone supports me; I know for sure that he does it. I know he uses cocaine.

- There were a lot of comments in Russia about his chewing his tie and hiding from the battle-planes. Do you believe his behavior was also caused by the drugs?

- No, these things have got nothing to do with the drugs. He is a mentally unbalanced person and a notorious coward. I do not understand what it has got to do with the drugs.

It was the Green Party that was the first to express concern about the drug dependence problem in Georgia last autumn. Leader of the party Georgiy Gachechiladze supports the idea of carrying out an expertise among both the officials and the delegates. However, just like the Laborites, he believes that it requires engaging the independent experts.

- We raised the issue of the drug dependence in Georgia and the transit from Afghanistan several months ago, in November. After that, a real informational drugs boom started in Georgia. Of course, some oppositionists came out with a proposal to test the president as well. I believe this statement of Saakashvili's was made several days ago through the so-called "opposition" sitting in parliament. That is the way they always do when they want to set up another PR action: the pseudo opposition starts talking about it and the government welcomes these proposals, - Georgiy Gachechiladze stated in his interview to GeorgiaTimes.

 - Of course, one should test everyone, especially among the government, because the actions of the Georgian authorities have been causing a lot of questions in the recent years. They take inadequate decisions and make strange steps. One can definitely say that these decisions are taken by drunken people. They should be tested, of course, but not by the Georgian narcologists. Let the European experts come and run the tests not only among the government officials but also among the oppositionists who terrorize the government via the television. If everything is done correctly I believe there will only be 50-60 percent of the government members left.

General Director of the Russian Political Information Center Alexey Mukhin thinks the suggestion to be humiliating for the Georgian officials.

- It must be humiliating for the members of the Georgian government; such extravagant initiatives promoted by President Mikhail Saakashvili are going to complicate his relationship with the closest associates, to put it mildly. I know that he is tired of the accusations addressed at him and his team members by various people; however, I do not think it a proper thing to respond to these accusations in an extravagant way like that, - the political expert underlined in his talk to GeorgiaTimes.

- The delegates of the Georgian parliament are obliged to undergo the drugs test to obtain a mandate, while the government is not. Perhaps, that is the way to set up justice?

- The very practice of undergoing the drugs test underlines the problems faced by the Georgian establishment; however, one should not make the situation absurd, in my opinion, and that is definitely an absurd initiative.
