South Ossetia relishes its independence

22.09.2011  |  22:57

South Ossetia relishes its independence. 22308.jpegSouth Ossetia has celebrated 21th anniversary of the founding of the republic. The celebrations in honor of this event in Tskhinval was attended by the Russian delegation which also took part in a large-scale economic forum. The spokesperson of the President and the Government of the Republic Vyacheslav Sedov told GeorgiaTimes' correspondent the details of the reached agreements and details of further cooperation of Russia and South Ossetia.

Yesterday the whole Tskhinval had a good time. People has forgotten about everyday problems and political battles that accompany the campaign before the presidential election. Solemn parade at Theater Square and the subsequent celebrations at the streets of the city marked the beginning of the 22th year, which South Ossetia begins as a declared republic. A person who has reached this age is usually already taking the first steps in his professional career. Unfortunately, we can't say the same about the country which only recently received the recognition of sovereignty. Rather, it is not even about getting up from its knees but just about the first movements in life.

However, Tskhinval has a reliable assistant for this - Russia. Russian President congratulated South Ossetia on the anniversary of the independence of the republic and has confirmed that Moscow is not going to interrupt the collaboration with it. "A friendly Republic of South Ossetia can further expect Russian support in carrying out reforms for the benefit of its citizens and in order to maintain peace and stability in the region" - said in the special appeal of Medvedev, which the head of the Administration of Russian President Naryshkin read at the solemn parade in the capital.

In turn, the South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity said that the residents of the country remember the efforts of Russia which helped to save the country. "During the difficult days of August 2008 the Russian leadership not only provided us military aid but also made the fateful for South Ossetia decision to recognize the independence of our country. In the whole, we can note with pride that today our countries have close friendly ties based on a solid legal foundation and long-standing historical relations between our peoples. We value these relationships and we are determined to do everything possible to expand and deepen them" - he said.

The opening of the first Russian-South Ossetian Business Forum, which was attended by almost three hundred people, was also timed to this memorable date. Moscow was represented by more than 100 officials from various ministries and departments, as well as employees of companies involved in the reconstruction of the country.

According to the spokesman of the president and government of South Ossetia Vyacheslav Sedov, at the forum they discussed the implementation of an investment program of socio-economic development of South Ossetia. Exactly the projects, implying the involvement of funds to the state economy, are now the priority for Tskhinval, he said in an interview to GeorgiaTimes. "Russia has allocated almost 7 billion rubles for the implementation of this program. 900 million rubles will be allocated only for the development of industry and agriculture. Much attention is paid to the road infrastructure of the country. Soon, the modern highways will connect the capital of South Ossetia with the regional centers and Kvaisa and Znaur" - added our source.

The main problem of South Ossetia - the restoration of housing destroyed during the Georgian aggression and construction of a new housing - won't be forgotten. "We started constructing homes in new residential district of Tskhinvali "The Northern". Already this year, workers are planning to complete the construction of several houses. We have completed designing of building of South-Ossetian State University, which will include the building of SOSU with the audiences, cinemas, sports grounds, cinema and conference rooms" - said Vyacheslav Sedov.

Naturally, one can not ignore the problem of security in South Ossetia. It is obvious that official Tbilisi has not given up hope to return the republic to its strong embrace from which we tried to escape for years. In order to cool down the Georgian military, we're going to build 19 frontier posts at the border of two states. "Currently, we have already built almost half of them. Given past experience, the troops are in constant readiness. They are keeping the powder dry, as they say, because the provocation, including the informational, are ongoing. Various shady characters are violating the border. We have to detain these people and after clarification of circumstances we tranfer them to the Georgian authorities" - said the head of the presidential press service of the RSO Vyacheslav Sedov.
