Ivanishvili unsettled Mishiko14.10.2011 | 16:15
The fact that Bidzina Ivanishvili is a good businessman is obvious. Otherwise, he would not have a five and a half billion dollars. But now it is clear that the businessman, who has appeared infrequently in the media field until now, is excellent newsmaker.
At first he tried to separate the wheat from the chaff in the Georgian political arena, clearly outlining in his open letter, with which forces he was going to work and with what - he did not. In his view, only the "Free Democrats" of Irakli Alasania and the Republican Party has a prospect of real political opposition. All other opponents of the authorities are "pseudo-oppositional", according to the billionaire.
In the same letter he gave the unfavorable characteristics for Mikhail Saakashvili, who is "tired, exhausted and who is leading the country to the abyss", as well as for his supporters and for many other participants of the socio-political process - from representatives of mass media to the political scientists. During this time Ivanishvili has immediately given up his citizenship.
And he started talks on forming a coalition with the opposition "Free Democrats" and Republicans. "Alasania and Ivanishvili have agreed to hold a consultation to develop a certain plan of action", reported "Free Democrats" after results of negotiations. Political leader and billionaire noted the proximity of their positions on many issues of domestic politics in Georgia. The Republicans, in turn, have also expressed interest in working with a charismatic businessman.
Meanwhile Ivanishvili, who still acted as an object of media fields, can be transformed into its subject. He expressed the desire to acquire television channel which has a right to broadcast in Sakartvelo and to take part in formation of information policy in Transcaucasian republic. And, it seems, will soon take.
The owner of TV Company Maestro Erosi Kitsmarishvili, criticized by Ivanishvili for cooperation with the authorities, proposed to transfer its management to outrageous businessman. "I am ready to give Bidzina Ivanishvili my company at a symbolic price of one lari, and the only condition for the transfer of the company will be an agreement of Ivanishvili with the Maestro on the amount of investment", said one of the leaders of the Georgian party yesterday in the air of the Caucasia".
So far, the authorities have tried to get rid of a dangerous rival with its usual bureaucratic chicanery and through deprivation of citizenship. But, apparently, in Avlabari, they have already understood that it's hard to do this. So the prospects of a serious opposition force, which has the access to the media, force Saakashvili to seek other ways to fight.
"I do not exclude that the authorities may hold elections in early Spring rather than in Fall, in order to Ivanishvili had no time to arrange the party infrastructure", noted the Christian Democrat Levan Vepkhvadze in connection with this.
Erosi Kitsmarishvili echoed him: "Saakashvili knows very well that in early March, Russian presidential elections will be held and in Fall of 2012 presidential elections in the United States would not have been completed yet. Although the fact that Vladimir Putin will become Russian President is equally obvious as the fact that Saakashvili expects a serious failure in the elections. I am convinced that Saakashvili will call early elections in the coming months".
GeorgiaTimes' correspondent asked political analyst George Khutsishvili to comment these news. According to experts, Bidzina Ivanishvili has managed to give new impetus to the political process in Georgia, but it's prematurely to judge in which direction. "Now, of course, it's early to make predictions. They have clearly determined their partners. But they haven't got official response from these parties. Now they are consulting and making decisions. We'll know this very soon and then we'll make conclusions on how strong coalition could be established", believes the analyst.
But the authorities seem to have already lost. They failed to prevent the bussinessman from the elections trying to deprive his citizenship. "Independent lawyers have already given the definition of the situation. According to Georgian law, only president can deprive the citizenship in this situation, basing on his decree. But there wasn't such a decree", said Giorgi Khutsishvili.
Of course, Saakashvili is able to make this ex post. But will he dare? According to experts, he'd rather try to postpone the election till next Spring. Whatever it was, the appearance of Bidzina Ivanishvili at the Georgian political scene managed to dramatically enhance the social processes in the country. And this is his undoubted merit. He would not let Saakashvili to turn Georgia into a country of lethargy similar to the Brezhnev regime when the authorities are appointed for life and nothing happens.
