Putin’s visit stirred protest in Georgia

2009-08-12 18:30

The Ministry of Foreign affairs of Georgia regards the visit of Russian PM Vladimir Putin to Abkhazia as a "provocation", The statement reminds that it happens "on 12 August 2009, on the anniversary of the signing of the six-point ceasefire agreement" and claims "this coincidence is in fact a previously planned and deliberate action".

"V. Putin's ‘visit' to occupied Abkhazia provides further evidence that Russia continues to defy the internationally recognized norms and principles of international law, its own international commitments and reputation as well as the norms of civilized conduct prevailing in international relations. By taking such steps, Russia once again makes it clear that Russia was never and is not intending to comply with any of its commitments under the six-point agreement of 12 August 2008," the document says - Interfax.
