Saakashvili: we didn’t finance Harlin’s movie

2009-11-20 15:05

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili reported that Georgian authorities had not financed the movie on last year's August events directed by Renny Harlin, a Hollywood director, RIA Novosti reports.

"Now we have no money for filmmaking, - Saakashvili confessed. - As soon as we have it we will start helping our film directors'.

Georgian President also complimented Andy Garcia starring as Saakashvili in the film. "This is a hot Cuban man who gestures just like me", - the president joked. - I guess he will cope with the part".

The movie on last year's August war directed by Renny Harlin was filmed in Tbilisi that turned into a giant shooting area. The Georgian authorities provided all possible support to the film crew by giving them access to official buildings including Mikheil Saakashvili's residence.

The Georgian opposition assumed the role of claimants and is preparing a petition to the court addressing Director General of the Imedi company Georgiy Arveladze, as well as President of the country Mikhail Saakashvili.

  • “Away with the president” peacefully
The Georgian opposition seems to live according to a cyclic people’s calendar. In spring, the calendar orders to demand early resignation of the country’s government and the new presidential and parliamentarian elections. The government provides enough reasons for that. Imedi’s scandalous broadcast about Russia’s attack against Georgia became the last straw in this season. Several parties that have consolidated around Zurab Nogaideli into National Council speak for the peaceful change of the government.
