The World Forum of Foreign Diasporas of the Nations of Georgia under the threat of derangement
In end March Financial Times published material about the upcoming The World Forum of Foreign Diasporas of the Nations of Georgia. Subsequently the number of submissions soared.
The reaction of the official Tbilisi also appeared quick, organizers of the Forum said - Trend.
Foreign Ministry of Georgia sent circulars to European embassies to impede the event.
The letter warned the Congress of the People of Georgia intends to hold The World Forum of Foreign Diasporas of the Nations of Georgia in St. Petersburg on April 23rd-24th.
The Ministry stated the organisation is known for its pro-Russian orientation and claimed it tries to create a movement, opposing the pre-Western democratic orientation. In conclusion it expressed hope in case of invitation the recipient would in no form support the initiative.
In response the leaders of the Congress of the Nations of Georgia claim Georgians must have neither pro-Russian nor pro-Western orientation but to follow their, Georgian, way; and the problem of the present-day government it cannot conduct the policy, corresponding the interest of Georgian people.
Yet the Forum organizers thank the Ministry for informing wide circles on date and place of the forum.
The agenda of the forum includes 10 points, among them: territorial integrity of Georgia; guarantees of the sovereignty of Georgia; reforming the economy for the good of the majourty of population; social protection of youth, veterans, handicapped, refugees families with many children; preservation of the cultural heritage; restoration of good-neighborly relations with Russia; neutrality, course for uniting with the EU; mutually beneficial relations with the USA etc.
