European Parliament admitted Georgia’s guilt of unleashing a war

2010-05-20 17:47

At today's sitting the European Parliament supported main conclusions of the report by Heidi Tagliavini's international EU commission on conflict in South Ossetia investigation - RosBalt.

Yet the European parliament supported idea of EUMM mandate expansion and turned to the involved sides with a call to comply with all points of cease-fire agreement between Georgia and Russia and grant Mission's employees a free access to the region.

According to European parliamentarians, "isolation" of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is counterproductive for searching a way out of the situation.

The resolution highlights the importance of Geneva Talks on security in Caucasus as the only forum, in which all the sides, involved in the conflict participate, and the UN, EU and OSCE cooperate closely to achieve stability in the region.

The document also highlights support of territorial integrity of Georgia by the EU.
