UN allocates human's right for water
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, recognizing access to pure drinking water a fundamental right of a human - Trend.
This resolution has no binding force. It was supported by 122 states, including Russia, China, Germany, France, Spain, Brazil. 41 states abstained, among them the USA, Canada, and Australia. The document also calls on world community to increase efforts to provide everyone in need with pure drinking water.
According to the UN data, over 1.5 mln children around the world die before 5 because of the insanitary conditions and diseases caused by drinking contaminated water. 884 mln people in the world have no access to pure drinking water, and over 2.6 bn live in insanitary conditions.
