U.S. Congress delegation paid last tribute to the Georgian lieutenant
Yesterday the body of the Georgian officer, killed in Afghanistan, was delivered to his motherland - Novosti-Gruzia.
The body was delivered in very short terms. The mourning ceremony was held first in the territory of a military airport in Alekseyevka [near Tbilisi] and was attended by officials of the Ministry of Defense [including Minister Bacho Akhalaya]; U.S. Congress delegation, staying with a visit; relatives and friends of the deceased. Then he was delivered to a settlement in Svanetia, and no journalists was allowed.
"Mukhran Shukvani was a good, decent officer. He loved Georgia a lot. First we were told he was blown up by a mine, then said a sniper was shooting", said Eteri Jorjoliani, the aunt of the officer.
The commander of the 31st company of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia battalion was killed on Sunday, in the course of the operation. Another Georgian serviceman, Corporal Alik Gitolendia, was delivered to Germany in a serious condition to undergo treatment. He lost both legs.
