Georgians want to get rid of Saakashvili – expert
Vladimir Zakharov, the director of the Institute of Political and Social Research of Black Sea and Caspian Region, stated the Georgian society is longing for Mikheil Saakashvili's quitting his post and restoration of relations with Russia.
"Georgia understands that Saakashvili's term as a political figure expired long ago. And they wait for his quitting to start normal relations with the neighbour, Russia," he said - Osinform.
"Yes, till Saakashvili is in office, Russian won't talk to Georgia. But Georgia understands the situation would change dramatically for the good after Saakashvili's quitting. Surely, we understand that no matter who cones after him, anti-Russian spirits in Georgia won't disappear. But we can't say they will be people pathologically hating Russia," the expert added.
He highlighted his skeptical attitude to Saakashvili's idea on confederation with Azerbaijan. "Issue of confederation are only fantastic dreams, as Georgian and Azerbaijani society are extremely diverse in perception of the world and world-view," Zakharov believes.
Previously Dmitry Medvedev, the President of Russia, repeatedly claimed relations between Russia and Georgia would increase only after shifting the present-day regime.
