Tbilisi authorities waiting for the death of an opposition member
Melor Vachnadze, the Georgian opposition member, leader of Shemogvierdti [Join] movement, staying in Gldani prison [Tbilisi] is getting ready to refuse both food and water - Novosti-Gruzia.
His dry hunger strike will be started on September 20th. According to Levan Chitadze, the leader of Ara ["No"] movement, Vachnadze's demand to the authorities remains the same - to released illegally imprisoned, including the ones detained for political and religious beliefs. He also sees necessity to monitor places of imprisonment from the side of international and non-governmantal organisations.
Vachnadze has been imprisoned for over a year by now. He's accused of fraud. Vachnadze started his hunger strike on August 17th, now his condition is assessed as grievous.
"Now all he takes is water. Several times he needed medical aid. Our demand to transfer him to a prison hospital found no response from the authorities," Chitadze said.
