Police “arrested” Romanian president in Bucharest
Cotroceni Palace [Romania] was surrounded by policemen, who threw caps and bottles in it - Gazeta.ru.
Over 6 000 people spontaneously came to the presidential residence and staged a protest action. Policemen demand more working places and higher salaries. Protesters also called on the president Traian Besescu and Prime Minister Emil Boc to resign.
"We won't leave until Basescu comes to us. We demanded him to come to the square in front of the government, where protest actions had been staged for several days, and sign the document allowing to solve the crisis situation occurred in the law enforcement bodies because of cut financing. But he didn't come, and then we ourselves headed for Contoceni," Marian Gruia, the leader of policemen's trade union said.
"Movement to the presidential residence occurred spontaneously, it wasn't mentioned in the rally organizers' application. Law enforcement units accompany the demonstators, but they don't intend to use force," said Marius Militaru, the Bucharest's gendarmerie spokesman.
