Constitutional Court of Kosovo “dismissed” the president
Fatmir Sejdiu left the position of the president of Kosovo - Novosti-Gruzia.
He was in office from 2006, when succeeded the deceased Ibrahim Rugova. In 2008 he participated in proclaiming independency from Serbia, but in 2010, according to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, violated the main document of the republic, when stayed the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, after being elected in 2006.
"Based on agreements with domestic political forces and the international factor, I believed that retaining my post [as party leader] without actually exercising the function was not a violation of the constitution," Sejdiu said in his resignation speech.
"However, the constitutional court made a different determination, and I respect this ruling even though I have not yet been shown the court's reasoning," he concluded - The Financial Times.
Jakup Krasniqi was appointed the acting president.
